The Objectivity- Subjectivity Debate and The Dilemma of Modern Citizenship: From the Modern to the Postmodern

Abstract
The concept of citizenship is, in contemporary times, a central theme ill political theory. This has made the concept to be hailed as the most objective status that members of a particular socio-political sphere call experience. However; this paper argues that citizenship is today entrapped in the problematic of subjectivity. The paper discovers that part of the basis for the contention is the declaration that we live ill the postmodern age characterised by multiculturalism and the celebration of values and virtues of capitalism such as class politics, the explosion in the concept of rights, the rebirth of the hometown syndrome and the fact that human nature is still a subject of controversy. The paper concludes that the subjectivity that citizenship is enclosed in today might suggest the end of history.
