Abstract
Based on positive psychology perspective, the relationships of self-efficacy and self-esteem, with organisational commitment were investigated in a sample of 210 secondary school teachers in Nigeria. Measures of organisational commitment, self efficacy, and self-esteem were the instrument of data collection. Linear multiple regression model and t-test for independent sample were used to test the hypotheses. The results revealed significant influence of self-efficacy, self-esteem, age, and tenure on organisational commitment. The findings imply that psychological strategies for enhancing teachers’ levels of organisational commitment would be more effective when self-efficacy and self-esteem of teachers are considered. Since teachers are a valuable resource to schools, management must invest significant resources in providing training programmes to enhance their self-efficacy and self-esteem. To maximise service delivery, specific psychological activities to improve teachers’ self-efficacy and self-esteem are suggested.
